Average Value

Hi guys!  Here’s your assignment for the weekend of February 6, 2015.

1.  Watch the video linked here:

Introduction to the Average Value of a Function

2.  Write an email to me with the answers to each of the following questions.  If you need more help, I’ve included another video below that has some examples.

     a.  In your own words, explain what it means to find the average value of a function over an interval.

     b.  The formula for average value is listed below.  In this formula, explain what 1/(b-a) represents.

      c.  Given the graph of f(x), made up of two line segments and a semicircle on 0≤x≤9, find:

          i. The average value of f(x) on [0,5].

ii.  The average value of f(x) on [0,9]

iii.  If f(x) is the derivative of F(x), use the graph of f(x) to identify any points at which F(x) has a point of inflection.  Justify your answer.
